Caillard's last years, divided between Javea, Ouessant, and his Paris studio at the rue Clauzel. These works reflect a distilled economy of means: fewer elements, a heightened chromatic sensitivity, and an abiding commitment to painting from life. He died in Paris on 18 September 1985.
