1930s

A decade of world travel and decisive artistic maturation. Caillard spent extended periods in Morocco, Indochina, Bali, Bora-Bora, and Martinique, absorbing light and forms that would suffuse his palette for the rest of his career. He received the Blumenthal Prize in 1934 and settled into his studio at the rue Clauzel the following year, where canvases harvested from across the globe awaited the quiet of Paris.
