Brittany

Brittany became Caillard's adopted landscape after his release from captivity in 1941. The coast — its granite, its fog, its fierce Atlantic weather — provided a counterpoint to the sunlit exoticism of his pre-war voyages and a grounding in the elemental that marked his mature style.
